By necessity, I have been doing a lot of Escaping to the Warm Toasty Gym lately. (I have not run outside since last Wednesday!) Although this makes running less hazardous to my health and sanity, it requires me to burn through those red-and-black gym passes at an alarming rate. My husband and I joined an alumni association solely so I could buy guest passes at a cheap rate.
I was running low, so I stopped by the office to buy some more passes today and was told--oh no, Batman!--that I am only entitled to purchase four passes a month, not the eight I thought I could buy. I was certain the lady didn't know what she was talking about, but I looked it up in the official brochure when I got home, and oopsie, she was right.
If the weather keeps up like this I may have to just suck it up and buy a membership for a few months. Boy, running a charity race is certainly turning out to be an expensive proposition!
I ran with Betsy at lunchtime today and deliberately kept my effort to a conversational pace. (Says Bingham: "You should be able to recount detailed stories of your grade-school teachers to your running buddy--without feeling winded.") The funny part is that I was running an 11:19 pace on the treadmill, just like I was a few days ago when it felt so hard! The only difference was that I kept the incline at zero today. (I wonder if the time of day I work out has anything to do with it?) I ran 3 miles, including five minutes of warmup, in 35:50.
Tomorrow I head to the LLS office for our meeting. We're getting whacked by another snowstorm later on (oh, yay--NOT!), so I plan to skedaddle home afterwards. And I have to squeeze my 2-miler in there somewhere...I wonder if they have a treadmill at the LLS office?
