How do you "carb up" chili? By adding a ton of rice. Voila!
We are well into the carb-loading, water-pounding, salt-slurping phase of race prep. Today I had a bagel with jam, a TV dinner with pasta, a slice of coffee cake, a banana, two cups of Powerade, the riced-up chili you see above, and a chocolate chip cookie. And endless glasses of water. I've got some steel cut oats cooking up for tomorrow morning to get things off to a carb-y start!
I don't want to jinx things, but the race day forecast is looking awfully nice:

May 16 Sunday
More clouds than sun. Highs in the low 60s and lows in the mid 50s.
YES!!! Good temps, good weather. We'll have to see what they have to say about wind, but hopefully it will be calm.
I have some very special people to whom I want to dedicate Mile 11. This is the beginning of the end of the race--once you get through Mile 10, it's just a 5K to the finish.
First, there is Shane. Without her, the huge monster success of the agility fundraiser weekend would not have been possible. She's the president of the agility club and gave me the go-ahead to hold the event. She has been helpful and supportive in every way imaginable. And she is a lymphoma survivor herself, so she has been to hell and back and knows what it is like to fight for your life. Thank you, Shane.
On a similar note, Jan donated her time and energy to design courses and judge the dog agility Fun Run, which brought in over $800 for LLS. She was the judge at my very first CPE show back in 2004 and remains one of my favorites for her warm and caring personality and fun course designs. Thanks, Jan.
PawPrints Life, Three Jacks Bakery, Kathy Topham, DVM, and Tynya (again!) get special shout-outs for donating raffle prizes and a portion of their weekend's proceeds.
Ann is an accomplished runner who also does dog agility and rally obedience. She is also a Team in Training alumna and gave me lots of great suggestions and ideas to help me along the way. She has also been a wonderful cheerleader, leaving me nice notes on Facebook and generally being wonderfully supportive. Thanks, Ann, and I hope I'll do you proud on Sunday.
Finally, Steve and Betsy are practically family. They have both been instrumental, each in their own way, to my success with Team in Training. Steve is a runner (though a much faster one than I am), and he has endured endless rounds of questioning on everything running-related with inexhaustible patience and good cheer. He also donated the materials for and built the fabulous purple triple jump for the agility fundraiser raffle. Betsy kept me going through the coldest, bleakest part of winter, acting as my training buddy and making sure we got to the gym to get our workouts in. Without her, I'm sure there would have been a lot more red NOPEs on my weekly review posts. Words are insufficient to thank you both!
