This is an official shot from the Hermes 10-miler race I ran on Saturday, April 24. I LOVE this picture. It's technically not great (the lady behind me in the pink is actually in sharper focus than I am), but there are just so many things I love about it that I had to buy it. In no particular order, those things are:
- I am happy and clearly having fun, despite the rain and my Yoda-like hood action (you can see the raindrops if you zoom in--it was raining pretty steadily at that point). I think this picture was taken between mile 5 and mile 6, so I had been running for about 55 minutes. Heck, I don't even look winded.
- The woman next to me in the black is Kelli, my TNT Mentor and teammate. Kelli has been a fantastic training partner and great presence, and I love the "whoo-hoo!" expression on her face.
- The other runners in the picture are both men and women, older and younger folk all out there running together. I like that. The guy on the left looks like he is giving it his all! (I looked up his bib number. He finished in 1:50.)
- You can see some people standing on the sidewalk watching, blurry background figures, but they're definitely there. It meant so much to me that people were willing to stand out in a cold rain and clap and cheer us on.
- There are flowers on some of the trees in the background, and the grass is green and lush. The photo makes it clear that this is spring at its loveliest unfolding around us, and this part of the run through Lakewood was gorgeous.
- I smile every time I look at it.
This race went so well. It was definitely worth getting a picture to remember it by.
