Dog agility can be hazardous to your health

Seriously, agility classes should carry a warning label: "If you are a runner, you may injure yourself EVEN THOUGH YOU MANAGED TO GO TO CLASSES FOR YEARS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE THIS." You may recall that a few weeks ago, I hurt my heel when my foot went out from under me on the mulch at class. That sidelined me for three full days.

I went to agility class with my dog yesterday afternoon--a windy but dry day--and was doing sequences in something called a "speed circle." (A Stuart Mah speed circle, no less.) This is not that difficult--the dog runs the outside of the circle and you run the inside, so it is pretty easy for you to keep up with the dog. We were on well-maintained grass, so mulch was not an issue.

We had been working for maybe 30 minutes, and I was running a straightaway with my dog on my left when I felt a sudden twinge of pain on the inside of my right leg. Uh-oh. It seemed to subside and I finished the class, but later that evening, it hurt--it was not sore, it HURT. I iced it, but when I went to bed, I had to lie on my back, because turning from one side to the other was quite painful.

I was actually limping when I got up this morning. I walked the dogs rather gingerly and the injured spot still hurt noticeably when I returned. Prolific icing and cursing ensued. I also contacted Kim to cancel the private Pilates lesson I had scheduled for tomorrow morning. Grrrr.

It was a dizzyingly beautiful day--deep blue sky, sunshine, low humidity, and nice comfortable temps in the low 60s. It would have been perfect to run in, and I had planned my last run up The Gigantic Hill today as part of my Liz's Loop/5K Course 6-mile run. Obviously, none of that happened. I did not run at all. I walked the dogs again. I iced my leg again. I cursed some more.

The last Group Run is Saturday, and now I don't even know if I will be there.
