Oops, that trail wasn't as long as I thought!

Despite beautiful weather today, I was having a tough time getting out the door to run, so I Facebook messaged my TNT peeps, and Lindsey came through and saved the day! (Thanks, Lindsey!)

I was all excited to run this nice trail along the river, which I have enjoyed many times while walking the dogs, but I was afraid to run on it by myself because it's pretty secluded.

"It's exactly four miles out and back!" I proclaimed to Lindsey. "Perfect for the four miles on the schedule today!"

But I knew something was wrong when I passed the first half-mile marker at 2:50. Uh-oh. Unless I'd suddenly turned into Kara Goucher, there was no way that could be right. After a bit of thought, I realized that the official start of the trail must be back at the next bridge upstream.

The other half-mile markers seemed all right when checked against my watch, so it was just the first one that was off. It wasn't that serious--instead of two miles to the other end of the trail (and the turnaround), it was 1.75.

"Okay, when we get back to our cars, all we have to do is turn around and run back to that first marker and back, and that will give us the last half-mile," I reasoned. This sounded like a fine idea until we actually got back to the parking lot. It had been a rough run and neither of us were interested in picking up the last half-mile at that point.

So because I am too boneheaded to measure distance properly, we ran a mere 3.5 miles in 37:46 for a 10:47 pace. Lindsey's heart rate monitor said we were going much slower than that, but I am starting to think Lindsey's heart rate monitor is on crack. It was still a nice trail and a very enjoyable run with Lindsey.
